Meaning of Nitai
Nitai the Arbelite; A most merciful god
The peaceful name Nitai is rooted in the Sanskrit scriptures and is interpreted as ‘the most merciful god.’ It is also considered the diminutive of another Indian name, Nityananda, which means ‘eternally happy.’ Nitai is believed to have originated from the 15th-century religious figure Nityānanda, who was also identified by the name Nitai. He was a prominent figure within Bengal’s Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition and was a friend and disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a 15th-century Hindu saint who was referenced as the conjoined incarnation of Radha and Krishna in numerous scriptures ( 1 ).
