In Chinese metaphysics, everything is composed of five elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Your birth year determines your dominant element, which influences your personality, ideal colors, directions, and how to balance your living space.
The Five Elements (Wu Xing) are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water — the five fundamental energies that compose everything in Chinese metaphysics. Each element has distinct qualities: Wood is growth and flexibility, Fire is passion and visibility, Earth is stability and nourishment, Metal is precision and clarity, and Water is wisdom and flow. The Deluxe Astrology Five Elements Calculator determines your dominant element from your birth year and shows how to balance your personal energy.
Your personal element is determined by the last digit of your Chinese solar birth year: ending in 0 or 1 is Metal, 2 or 3 is Water, 4 or 5 is Wood, 6 or 7 is Fire, 8 or 9 is Earth. The Deluxe Astrology calculator handles Chinese New Year cutoffs automatically (births in January–February may belong to the previous year). It also assigns yin or yang polarity based on whether the year is odd or even.
Yes. Enter your birth date to instantly receive your dominant element, polarity (yin/yang), personality traits, ideal colors, compatible elements, and Feng Shui recommendations for your home. The tool is free with no registration and also shows which elements clash with yours (destructive cycle) so you can avoid those colors and materials in high-impact areas like your bedroom.
The Five Elements interact through two cycles. The productive cycle: Water feeds Wood, Wood fuels Fire, Fire creates Earth (ash), Earth yields Metal, Metal holds Water. The destructive cycle: Water quenches Fire, Fire melts Metal, Metal cuts Wood, Wood breaks Earth, Earth dams Water. Use the productive cycle to amplify beneficial areas, and avoid placing destructive-cycle elements next to each other (e.g., water features next to fire colors).
Once you know your dominant element, surround yourself with your element's colors, shapes, and materials in your bedroom and workspace. A Wood person thrives with green, tall plants, and rectangular shapes. A Fire person with red, triangles, and candles. An Earth person with yellow, ceramics, and square shapes. A Metal person with white, metallic objects, and circular shapes. A Water person with blue, flowing water features, and wavy shapes. Add productive-cycle elements to energize and avoid destructive-cycle elements.
