Based on your Kua number, the Eight Mansions system identifies four auspicious and four inauspicious compass directions. Use these to position your bed, desk, and front door for maximum harmony.
Feng Shui assigns every person four auspicious compass directions (Sheng Chi for wealth, Tien Yi for health, Nien Yen for love, Fu Wei for personal growth) and four inauspicious directions (Ho Hai, Wu Gui, Liu Sha, Chueh Ming). The exact set depends on your Kua number, calculated from your birth year and gender. The Deluxe Astrology Lucky Directions Finder displays all eight directions on a visual compass rose with recommended uses for each.
Sheng Chi ("Generating Breath") is your best personal direction — the direction of wealth, career success, and opportunity. Position your desk to face Sheng Chi, sleep with your head pointing toward it, and ideally have your front door open in this direction. For East Group people (Kua 1, 3, 4, 9), Sheng Chi is Southeast, East, South, or North depending on Kua. For West Group people (Kua 2, 5, 6, 7, 8), it is Northeast, West, Northwest, or Southwest.

Position your bed so that your head points toward Tien Yi (your health direction) or Nien Yen (your love and relationships direction) when you sleep. Avoid pointing your head toward any of your four inauspicious directions, especially Chueh Ming (total loss) or Wu Gui (five ghosts — conflict). The direction your head points while sleeping matters more than the direction you face when awake, because you spend roughly a third of your life absorbing that energy.
East Group people (Kua 1, 3, 4, 9) have lucky directions in the East, Southeast, South, and North — elemental compatibility with Wood and Water. West Group people (Kua 2, 5, 6, 7, 8) have lucky directions in the West, Northwest, Southwest, and Northeast — elemental compatibility with Metal and Earth. Ideally, couples in the same group share a bedroom aligned to both partners' favorable directions; mixed-group couples compromise on direction choice per life area.
