Atman

In Hindu philosophy, Atman is the eternal, unchanging essence of the individual — the true self beyond body, mind, and ego. It is distinct from the physical form and personality, which change across lifetimes. In Advaita Vedanta, Atman is identical to Brahman (universal consciousness) — realizing this unity is the path to Moksha. The Bhagavad Gita describes the Atman as indestructible: "It is not born, nor does it ever die."
