Today's Chaughadiya

Chaughadiya divides day and night into eight periods each, indicating auspicious and inauspicious times. Use it to plan important activities for the best outcome.

Deluxe Astrology's Chaughadiya calculator divides your local day and night into eight variable-length periods each — computing exact sunrise and sunset times for your city using NASA JPL DE431 ephemeris data to determine the Shubh, Amrit, Labh, Char, Rog, Kaal, and Udveg boundaries in real local time.

Chaughadiya divides each day and night into eight segments of approximately 90 minutes each, classifying them as auspicious (Shubh, Labh, Amrit), inauspicious (Rog, Kaal), or mixed (Char, Udveg). The system is rooted in Muhurta Shastra — the Vedic science of auspicious timing — and has been used for centuries across India to choose the right moment for travel, business transactions, religious ceremonies, and important conversations.

Unlike the Hora system which assigns planetary rulers to fixed clock divisions, Chaughadiya calculates segment lengths based on actual sunrise and sunset times for your specific location. A Shubh (auspicious) period in Mumbai starts and ends at different clock times than the same Shubh period in Delhi. Amrit Chaughadiya is the most favourable — ideal for starting anything you want to succeed. Labh favours financial transactions and profit-making activities. Kaal Chaughadiya should be avoided for new beginnings, though it can work for activities that require endings or completion of old business.
