Chandala Yoga
Chandal Yoga is the broader form of Guru Chandal Yoga. It forms when Jupiter conjoins either Rahu or Ketu in the birth chart. While Guru Chandal specifically emphasizes the Jupiter-Rahu conjunction and its effect on wisdom versus illusion, Chandal Yoga also encompasses Jupiter-Ketu, which creates a different but related pattern. Jupiter-Ketu can produce a deeply spiritual but potentially ungrounded individual who rejects conventional wisdom, formal education, and traditional religious structures. Where Jupiter-Rahu creates confusion between wisdom and manipulation, Jupiter-Ketu creates detachment from wisdom altogether, favouring mystical experience over structured knowledge. The combined term "Chandal" refers to an outcast, suggesting that Jupiter's wisdom is somehow contaminated or displaced. The yoga practice for the broader Chandal Yoga addresses both variants by restoring Jupiter's connection to the crown chakra (for Ketu conjunction) and the throat chakra (for Rahu conjunction), rebuilding respect for authentic wisdom from within.
Look for Jupiter conjunct Rahu or Jupiter conjunct Ketu in your Vedic chart. The Jupiter-Rahu form tends to produce more material confusion (around money, ethics, and gurus), while the Jupiter-Ketu form tends to produce more spiritual confusion (around faith, tradition, and the purpose of knowledge). Check the sign and house placement to determine which life areas are most affected.
Chandal Yoga affects the Vishuddha (throat) and Sahasrara (crown) chakras, the centres connecting personal expression to universal wisdom. For Jupiter-Rahu, the throat chakra is the primary site: speech may be excessive, prone to exaggeration, or disconnected from inner truth. The body may manifest this as thyroid issues, frequent throat infections, or neck tension. For Jupiter-Ketu, the crown chakra is primary: there may be headaches at the crown, feelings of spiritual disconnection, or a tendency to zone out during important conversations. Both forms can affect the liver (Jupiter's organ) through dietary extremes: Jupiter-Rahu overeats or indulges, while Jupiter-Ketu may under-eat or follow extreme dietary restrictions. The yoga practice addresses both patterns through throat-opening and crown-activating poses that restore Jupiter's natural channel of wisdom from above to expression below.
6 poses targeting the Vishuddha and Sahasrara chakras.
Sarvangasana
From a supine position, lift the legs overhead and support the back with your hands. Extend the legs straight up. The gentle chin lock in this position naturally stimulates the Vishuddha chakra.
Directly activates and regulates the throat chakra through the Jalandhara Bandha effect. Calms the mental restlessness of the Jupiter-node conjunction.
Halasana
From shoulder stand, lower the feet toward the floor behind the head. Keep the legs straight and arms pressing into the mat or interlaced behind the back.
Deepens the throat chakra stimulation and creates a full spinal extension that connects the crown to the root.
Simhasana
Kneel with palms on the thighs. Inhale through the nose. On the exhale, open the mouth wide, extend the tongue, widen the eyes, and roar forcefully from the throat. Feel the vibration.
Clears stagnant energy from the throat chakra. The fierce expression allows suppressed truth to emerge, countering the confusion Chandal creates.
Sirsasana
Interlace fingers, place the crown on the mat, forearms grounded. Walk feet in and either lift the legs (use a wall) or hold the preparation position.
Directly activates the Sahasrara chakra, strengthening Jupiter's connection to divine wisdom that the nodes disrupt.
Paschimottanasana
Sit with legs extended. Lengthen the spine on the inhale, fold forward on the exhale. Reach for shins, ankles, or feet. Let the head hang toward the knees.
Symbolizes the student bowing before wisdom. The humble posture counteracts both the grandiosity of Jupiter-Rahu and the dismissiveness of Jupiter-Ketu.
Shavasana
Lie flat on the back. Place awareness at the crown of the head. Imagine a column of violet light entering through the crown and flowing down through the throat, heart, and belly, then exiting through the feet into the earth.
Re-establishes the natural wisdom channel from Sahasrara through Vishuddha, restoring the pathway that the node conjunction disrupts.
Bhramari Pranayama
Timing: 5 minutes, 12 rounds
Sit with eyes closed. Place the index fingers gently on the ear cartilage. Inhale deeply through the nose. Exhale while making a steady, deep humming sound. Feel the vibration in the throat, face, and crown of the head. The vibration of Bhramari resonates through both the Vishuddha and Sahasrara chakras simultaneously, clearing the confusion that Chandal Yoga installs in the wisdom channel.
ओम् ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah
Salutations to Jupiter, the divine teacher. Strengthening Jupiter's vibration through mantra practice helps it maintain dominance over the contaminating influence of whichever node it conjoins.
Sit with eyes closed. Visualize yourself entering an ancient, vast library. The shelves stretch infinitely in all directions. Each book glows with its own light. Some glow golden (true wisdom). Others flicker with an unstable, greenish light (half-truths and illusions). A wise librarian appears, who represents your own Jupiter energy. The librarian guides you to a specific section and places one golden book in your hands. Open it. The words inside are clear, simple, and true. They speak directly to a question you have been wrestling with. The answer was always here, in the library of your own deeper knowing. The nodes may confuse the catalog, but the books themselves remain true.
