Shadbala (“six-fold strength”) is the most comprehensive method in Vedic astrology for evaluating how powerfully a planet can deliver its results in your birth chart. The system, codified in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, assigns each planet a score across six dimensions: Sthana Bala (positional strength from sign, house, and exaltation), Dig Bala (directional strength based on which house the planet occupies), Kala Bala (temporal strength from the time of birth), Chesta Bala (motional strength based on planetary speed), Naisargika Bala (natural strength inherent to each planet), and Drig Bala (aspectual strength from aspects received).
A planet with high Shadbala delivers its significations effortlessly — a strong Jupiter brings wisdom and abundance, while a strong Venus attracts love and beauty. A planet with low Shadbala struggles to deliver, often manifesting as delays, obstacles, or weakness in that life area. Identifying weak planets through Shadbala analysis is the first step toward prescribing targeted planetary remedies — specific mantras, gemstones, and yoga practices that strengthen the debilitated planet. The Dasha system determines when each planet activates, making Shadbala essential for timing predictions.
