The Vertex marks the degree of your birth chart associated with fated encounters, destined relationships, and turning-point events that arrive from outside your conscious intention — the meetings that feel cosmically arranged.
Deluxe Astrology's Vertex calculator computes the prime vertical–ecliptic intersection using your exact birth coordinates and NASA JPL DE431 ephemeris — one of the few free calculators that shows both True Vertex and Anti-Vertex with their precise zodiacal degrees.
The Vertex is sometimes called the “electric Ascendant” — a secondary angle of the birth chart that represents a different kind of self-presentation than the Ascendant. Where the Ascendant describes how you enter the world through your own initiative, the Vertex describes how the world enters you through encounters that feel destined, fated, or beyond your personal control. In your birth chart, the Vertex always falls in the western hemisphere (houses 5 through 8 in most charts), reinforcing its association with others, partnerships, and things that come to you rather than being sought. The North Node describes your soul's growth direction; the Vertex describes specific fated arrivals along that path.
The Vertex becomes most apparent through its interactions. In synastry, when another person's Sun, Moon, Venus, or Mars lands on your Vertex degree, the encounter tends to feel destined or “sent.” These are the relationships people describe as arriving at exactly the right moment, carrying a lesson they were clearly meant to receive. In transit work, slow-moving outer planets crossing the Vertex often coincide with significant turning-point events — encounters that redirect the life course in ways that could not have been planned. The Part of Fortune describes the material dimension of your luck; the Vertex describes the relational and experiential dimension of fate.
Birth time and location are required for the Vertex — it is computed from the MC and geographic latitude.
